Experience as a Writer/Author and Instructional Designer

Derek Stockley has written a variety of training and management resources and articles. Writing is also a key element of his instructional design activities.

Writing in different fields

He is the author of the Municipal Association of Victoria publication The Right Person for the Right Job . This manual provides a practical, step by step guide to the recruitment and selection process, particularly in a restructuring environment. Copies of the guide are held by both the State Library of Victoria (Melbourne) and the Australian National Library located in Canberra.

He was a contributing author to Deakin Australia’s Graduate Diploma of Local Government Management - Human Resources Unit - a post graduate program provided by Deakin University.

Implementing e-learning - an "how to" guide by Derek Stockley - important tips and information about the successful implementation of e-learning systems in companies and organisations. This article was originally in EI Magazine (EI, Volume 2 Issue 7, February 2006, Ark Group Ltd).

Informal learning - important tips and information about informal learning, originally written for Capital Magazine.

His High Performance Newsletter Articles demonstrate the variety of writing styles used.

Instructional design projects

Apart from the distance learning materials for Deakin mentioned above, Derek has also completed instructional design resources covering management, negotiation and team leadership.

He wrote the study guide for a contract learning unit in a post graduate diploma in instructional design.

For a major Australian franchisee system, he prepared training guides and manuals for use by various levels of franchisees.

Policy and Procedure Manuals

Many consulting assignments require process and procedural documents and manuals to assist the implementation of change. Derek has developed and written many different policy, procedure, quality and training support manuals.

Search Engine Optimisation

Web sites should attract qualified and relevant visitors. Higher search engine rankings and increased website traffic can be achieved with Search Engine Optimisation techniques. Derek has experience in writing web pages that provide worthwhile information, but also maximise "search engine friendliness".
