In Learning and Development, the importance of personal development and lifelong learning was highlighted. Leadership development is important for every organisation. Each organisation exists for a purpose. Well run organisations clearly articulate their mission and strategy. Leaders are needed to guide employees and members to achieve the objectives and direction set. Leadership training can be formal or informal. Formal programs include training courses, business games and "outdoor" activities. Informal education includes coaching, mentoring, relevant experience and involvement in community activities. |

Leadership relates to the ability to motivate and guide others in a specific direction. Management encompasses leadership but also includes the traditional tasks of planning, organising, controlling and communicating. Like leadership training, management training can also be formal or informal. Formal programs include training courses, business games, case studies, management education programs at universities, e-learning packages and the like. Informal education includes coaching, mentoring, and relevant experience including secondments, job exchanges and the like. |
